Jérémie Cohen-Setton discusses the surprising results found by Chetty, Hendren and Saez – in the United States despite growing inequality, social mobility has remained stable over time. Politicians may thus be misleading focusing on the unproven weakening of intergenerational mobility. However, social mobility is not similar in every corner of the country.
